Painfilled blue eyes fluttered open, staring at the huffing vampire, pacing like a caged animal.
“Jo…on….I can’t take this anymore…the pain…it’s killing me.”
Jon kneeled onto the bed, his hand brushing the sweatiness from his face.
“Help is coming. You just hold on my man…you hear me? You hold on.”
David nodded, scrunching his face as barbed wire sliced into his core…setting him on fire.
Hours went by watching his begging for release, coming in and out of consciousness, his fists grabbing hold of the two men beside him, trying to soak up any strength…any escape he could possibly get but all was in vain. The pain pounded even worse, his heart strained, fighting to pump the poisonous, thick sludge through his veins.
Suddenly David reared up, his fists tangled in Jon’s shirt, his scream so earsplitting, it threw Tico off the bed.
“Jon...He is dying! Don’t let him die…Madre de Dios please! No more Jon…please no more.”
Jon eased the cramped hands from his shirt, settling David back, he turned to face Tico.
“Whatcha sayin Tic?” its was barely a whisper.
“We can’t le him die Jon…we just can’t.”
Shocked azure eyes met determined dark pools.
“You want me to turn him?” Jon reared back from David as the image flitted through his mind.
“I won’t do it. I WON’T FUCKING DO IT! Do you know what you are asking? A sick life of hunting and darkness…and loneliness….yes loneliness. Have you ever thought of what will happen to me 60…..70 years from now? I’ll be alone Tico…no family…no friends…just a lonely drifter praying on humans. Do you honestly tell me that’s what you want for him? I’ll rather kill him…take him out of his misery…but I wont’ fucking turn him.”
Tico stood silently, his eyes fixed on the heaving man on the bed, his body arched from the bed, his hands digging into the mattress, a flash caught his eyes and he turned his gaze towards Jon.
“I think it’s out of your hands…look…” He pointed towards David’s mouth.
Where there were once a perfect set of teeth, there was a slight irregularity, tiny, sharp fangs deformed the perfect enamel edges.
“Jesus!!” Jon snapped back as a low, sneer roared from David’s throat.
“Ease his pain Jon…get this over with.” Tico was sure his heart was halfway up his throat, was this their future? Would they all be turned in the end? An icy shiver rushed down his back.
Sitting back for a moment rubbing tiredly over his brows, Jon sat deathly quiet, his eyes close...the only sign of life was the tick in his jaw.
His voice made Tico jump.
“You know he is going to hate me for this don’t you?”
“No Jon…no he won’t. You will be the hero right?”
“No Tic...I will never be the hero…just the freak with the fangs and his uncontrollable lust for blood.”
Tico’s heart went out to Jon. So much anguish…so much self hate! Would it ever be right again for him?
Stepping forward he squeezed Jon’s shoulder.
“No matter what you are Jon. You will always be the Jon I know …and love. Nothing will change it.”
Camaraderie warmed the chilliness they felt in their hearts for just a moment before David reared off the bed again.
“Do you wanna be here for this?”
“I want to be here.”
Jon leaned over, staring at the human form of his friend, the human side he was about to extinguish.
Slitting his wrist he hovered for a moment before he lowered it slowly, fearing the moment his blood would spill over onto the pale lips.
As the thick, red blood dripped on David’s lips he had expected him to recoil but as his mouth opened wider, and his throat swallowed greedily Jon had never felt so much torment as he felt at that moment.
Cold, clammy hands gripped his wrist as they pulled it closer. Jon resisted, pulling his wrist back, his mind was yelling at him, commanding him to pull back but his friend’s sudden change in features kept him frozen to the spot and he felt resistance crumbled as he offered his wrist freely.
The click of the patio lock and the quick slide of the door turned their heads.
“NO!!! Jon stop it immediately!”
Thanking the gods as he watched her lithe frame entering the light he jerked back.
“It took you fucking long enough!”
“Well I had to make a stop. Things take time you know!” She rushed towards the bed, pushing back David’s lips she breathed in deeply, her words rushing from her mouth like an avalanche.
“He hasn’t turned yet. How much has he been drinking from you?”
“Almost a minute’s worth.” Taking in the healthy spill of blood through his fingers as he held the wound close, she stepped into action.
“We don’t have time. We gotta do this now, that’s if you still want him human. The change is almost complete Jon.”
Shock rocked Jon on his heels as he met the calm gaze of David. The pain was gone, contentment glowed in his eyes.
“Maybe we should give him a chance to decide.” Jon nodded towards David.
All eyes turned towards the blonde, curly man struggling to sit up on the bed.
Tears suddenly well up in his eyes.
“I’m sorry Jon. I know you are trying to help me, but I don’t want to be like you…I…I….” words escaped him.
“ Nough said Joker. Let’s get this over with.” Not sure why it felt as if someone just ripped his heart from his chest he turned away. He would hide the pain he felt even if it killed him! He masked his features and turned backed towards Chimala.
“Ok what now?”
“We have to extract the poison from his blood.”
You could hear a pin fall at that moment.
“How do we do that?” Tico had a bad feeling about this.
“We need to drain it out of him, by drinking it…..”
Her eyes flicked over the panic stricken David. He looked like a vampire pin cushion. Raw, cruel punctures marred his perfect skin, she could just imagine how it must feel to know that he was going to go through yet another ordeal like that.
“That’s it?” David was bordering on hyperventilation.
She shook he head, from her cloak she pulled the most heinous looking injection. The needle was thick and awfully long, the fluid inside looked just as bizarre.
The gasps whipped through the air.
“What the fuck is that for?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
David was ready to except this vampire thing right there and then.
“This is when we need to get your heart going again.”
“To…my heart…WHAT?!” His eyes swallowed his face.
Chimala sat down next to him. Usually she felt pleasure in humans’ fear but somehow she only felt sympathy towards these close knit men.
“You have lost a lot of blood when you were abducted, the problem is that we have to drain you even more and usually your heart goes into shock and stops beating. If that happens I need to insert this needle into your heart. It contains adrenalin and it should get your heart going, giving us enough time to get you blood for a transfusion…human blood.”
David gaped in shock. His eyes fixed on the needle, his mind rushing.
“If its any consolation, you wont feel a thing when I do this.”
“You fucking sure?” He rubbed his chest.
She nodded, her smile gentle.
“I don’t want to rush you David, but time is running out. We need to do this now.”
The three men’s gazes locked , as if one, they nodded.
“Ok..I’ll do it but I want to know one thing. Who is going to do the drinking?”
“I am.” Chimala pushed his shirt back a bit more.
“I want Jon to do it.” Determined eyes burned into Jon’s.
